I completely agree about the dangers of the community ‘band wagon’ – the benefits and importance of developing community services require a more nuanced approach and a better understanding of the evidence and opportunities that are available.

This theme is one that the new president of the British Geriatric Society, Dr David Oliver, is very keen on and he wrote an interesting commentary on this for the Health Service Journal recently.1
