Diagnostic criteria for peritoneal dialysis (PD)-related peritonitis

Diagnosis of PD-peritonitis requires two of the following three features:
  • Clinical features consistent with peritonitis

  • Abdominal pain and/or cloudy dialysis effluent

  • Raised white cell count in dialysis effluent

  • >100 white cells/μL after a dialysis dwell time of at least 2 hours

  • >50% polymorphonuclear leukocytes

  • Positive dialysis effluent microbiological culture
