2015, Clinics in Laboratory MedicineCitation Excerpt :E histolytica infections have also been linked to childhood morbidities, growth stunting, and delayed cognitive development.4–6 E dispar, a nonpathogenic commensal species, is perhaps 10 times more common than E histolytica worldwide,7 but local prevalences may vary significantly. Evidence is now building that a second member of the Entamoeba genus, E moshkovskii, is also associated with human disease.8,9
Entamoeba histolytica
2013, Microbiology of Waterborne Diseases: Microbiological Aspects and Risks: Second EditionEfficacy of a Gal-lectin subunit vaccine against experimental Entamoeba histolytica infection and colitis in baboons (Papio sp.)
2012, VaccineCitation Excerpt :Premenarche female baboons aged 24–36 months were chosen; they were without any history of diarrhea or prior use in research, were uninfected as determined by fecal PCR and negative by ELISA for serum or intestinal anti-lectin or anti-LC3 IgA or IgG antibodies. Female baboons were chosen because of their abundance, unlike humans [33], there is no difference by gender for susceptibility of baboons to E. histolytica intestinal infection or colitis [32]. The culture media for xenic E. histolytica trophozoites was TYGM-9 (ATCC Medium 1171-product information sheet for ATCC® 30923); the HM1: IMSS strain was in culture for 2 months before use.
